Abstract

This paper offers new notes about the treatment of the nose as a funny topos in Lope’s dramatic poetry. Tailoring, astrology, mythology, music, and physiology (in addition to the Bible) are the disciplines which the playwright used in order to succeed in a tough enterprise: to refurbish a comical topos that had been worn out since ancient times, as González de Salas wrote down in El Parnaso español.
