Abstract
This article tries to show the function of the poetry included in the short novels by Lope de Vega, published in La Filomena and La Circe, in conjunction with the metaliterature of de senectute cycle, which begins early with the Novelas a Marcia Leonarda, where Lope de Vega allowed experimental audacities in the Cervantes way, providing a technical novelty compared to the stories of the Italian novellieri and to the reference of the Exemplary Novels. In his short novels Lope de Vega slides lyrical compositions in continuity with the poems of the books in which they are inserted and whose epistolary nature dialogues with the poems external to the narratives where this lyrical subgenre is one of the most represented.
